"Escalante" is a well found vessel with an extensive offshore cruising history.
She provides a stable ride at sea with comfortable accommodations.
All she needs is some cosmetic repairs and your personal TLC to make her the ideal escape pod!
Escalante's StoryEscalante was built in Port Hardy, British Columbia. This custom built catamaran sailing yacht was built by a private builder (Lord Ryan Ship builders), based on specifications from the original owners. The high level specifications are listed below:
Safe sailing vessel in rough seas
Simple and redundant mechanical systems
Ease of sailing single handedly or with crew
Large galley with a stove
Lots of room inside and outside to accommodate a couple as well as children or guests
Dry boat
Minimal draft
The name Escalante comes from a derivative of a Spanish word that means scaling, climbing or accelerating.
The Escalante was completed in 1986 and the original owners began sailing her first year in the Pacific coastal areas in and around British Columbia. Later the next year the owners then began their exploratory journey of the pacific. They first journeyed to Anchorage, Alaska and then South towards Seattle, California and then on to the South Pacific. By 1989 the vessel had made it to Central and South America stopping in Mexico Guatemala, Nicaragua, Columbia and Peru. In 1990 the vessel passed through the Panama Canal. The next year the owners explored the Central Americas-Gulf Ports.
The second owners bought the vessel in 1993 in Belize City, Belize. The second owner sailed Escalante around the Gulf side of Central America on his own personal adventure. In 1994 he decided to venture to the western Caribbean islands including the Cayman Islands, Cuba, Haiti and Dominican Republic. From there Escalante sailed north to the Bahamas and then to the East Coast of the U.S. In 1998, he sailed her to Oriental, NC where he headed off to grad school.
In 1999 the current owner then sailed Escalante through the Carolinas and to his home port of Reedville, VA. During the next seven years Escalante sailed to the Chesapeake Bay ports of Annapolis, Baltimore, Cape Charles, Crisfield, and several more trips to the Carolinas.
In 2007 Escalante headed south again towards Florida stopping briefly in Wilmington, Charleston, Jacksonville, Miami. In 2008 Escalante reached her new homeport in the Florida Keys where she enjoyed the Florida warmth for two years. In 2010 Escalante was on the move again heading back to the Gulf where she now resides in the Tampa bay area.
Escalante is now in her Gulf port awaiting her next journey. She has maintained her original specs and through minor upgrades has become only a better boat over time. She sails wonderfully in rough weather and always remains dry.
